Vyne Review (continued)
The Wellington Burger Sliders was a quirky take on the burger; the patty was completely sealed within the battered bun. The beef was tasty enough, and any hint of red meat greasiness was balanced out by the tartness of Vyne’s home-made ketchup.
Vyne is never going to be known for a wide selection of soups, but the two that they do have, the Prawn and Corn Soup (top) and the Tomato Soup (bottom) make for excellent hunger-inducing appetizers.
I also enjoyed the Chicken Roulade, having mild-flavored and tender chicken in the dish. It also went very well with the mildly sweet mashed potatoes on the plate. I would say this makes for a good dinner for one!
For those with large appetites or are looking for a generous serving of a menu item, order yourself a Vyne Burger. It’s thick – three to four fingers – and topped with foie gras, which added a rich, almost creamy tone on the beef. The tomato and apricot on the side completed and tempered what would otherwise have been a heart-stopping grease-fest of a meal.
Another dish I particularly liked was the Scallop and Octopus, with poached egg. I am very partial to octopus so this was easy to like, flavorful and slightly messy to eat – which makes it fun! It’s good for sharing but I can see how one can easily finish this off by himself/herself.
The dessert experience was understandably limited, but this chocolate creation did not disappoint. A soft chocolate cake smothered with chocolate and topped off with a chocolate shard, it was a delicious treat! I liked how it was not all-sweetness, and after the numerous fried dishes and alcohol, the change in flavor profile was more than welcome.
