San Miguel Beermen Triumphs over Ginebra; Grabs Top Slot in PBA standings

It was a sweet victory for the San Miguel Beermen last Sunday, beating the Barangay Ginebra by 18 points, 100-82, to clench the top spot of the PBA standings.

The Beermen’s Arwind Santos led the scoreboards with 24 points, but all eyes were on Fajardo, who championed against his rival, Ginebra center Greg Slaughter, with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Ronald Tubid contributed 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Marcio Lassiter and Chris Ross finished with 13 and 10 point each.

Evenly matched in the first two quarters, it was only in the third quarter that the Beermen struck out to take a strong 9-point lead, 57-48, after running a 10-2 run. The quarter ended 73-60 in favor of the Beermen.

The Beermen extended their lead in the fourth, sinking 3-point baskets that left Ginebra behind by as much as 20 points. From then on, it was a breeze for the Beermen, while Ginebra struggled to get some points until the end of the game.

The Beermen sank a total of 14 shots from behind the arc, while Ginebra missed all 12 3-point shot attempts.

The win moved San Miguel’s record to 4 wins and only 1 lose, giving them the top spot in the team standings. The Beermen are scheduled to face the Barako Bulls on Sunday.
