Taal Volcano Erupts Again—Here’s What We Know So Far

Taal Volcano showed signs of unrest once again after erupting early Wednesday morning, October 1, 2025, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The eruption, which began shortly after midnight, ended at around 2:15 AM, producing a towering 2,500-meter plume that drifted northwest.

Despite the activity, Alert Level 1 (low-level unrest) remains in effect, meaning the volcano is not currently in a critical state—but authorities are reminding the public that sudden steam-driven (phreatic) eruptions, volcanic earthquakes, ashfall, and toxic gas emissions remain possible.

Residents in Batangas and nearby areas are urged to:

  • Stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.

  • Wear face masks and protective eyewear when going outside.

  • Follow the guidance of local government units and disaster response teams.

PHIVOLCS also warns against venturing into the Taal Volcano Island Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ), as sudden explosions and toxic gas releases pose serious risks.

A reminder of Taal’s volatile nature

Known for its picturesque lake setting, the volcano is one of the country’s most active, with its last major eruption in January 2020 affecting thousands of residents across Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna.

Authorities continue to closely monitor the situation. For real-time updates, residents are encouraged to follow PHIVOLCS’s official social media pages and their respective local disaster risk reduction and management offices (MDRRMOs).
