On August 13, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon announced that special Beep cards will be available in September. These Beep cards will automatically have a 50% off fare discount programmed into them, and will be renewed and reactivated every school year.
Students who are taking their post-graduate studies are also eligible to avail themselves of the discount.
Previously, students who availed discounts for single-journey tickets were required to present a valid school ID or proof of enrollment at the ticket counter.
Meanwhile, students are no longer required to fill out forms to avail of the 50% discount on LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 fares, as this can cause “hassle” and “delays” for passengers.
