I chanced upon Pearl’s work of art while I was browsing instagram. I was amazed with her work and her inspiring quotes. I then learned that she loves to doodle and randomly draw stuff even when she was still a student. She enjoys doodling cute figures and turning them into works of art.

She only started her lettering pieces in January 2013, though. She started taking photos of them and shared them on Instagram and soon, a lot of people started to show their love for her work! Because of this, she started conducting workshops last June, accepting commissioned work and joining bazaars. Amazing lady!

 

The difference between Typography and Lettering! Interesting!

 

So, last Saturday, I had a one-on-one 1 1/2 hour workshop with Pearl at a cafe in Quezon City. Pearl told me that she prefers conducting one-on-one workshops as it is more personal and she can really be hands-on with the participant.

The workshop started with some tidbits and facts about Typography/Lettering. She taught me the anatomy of a letter and the steps on how to create amazing letterings!

She had mini demonstrations and explained things as she created each letter.

She gave me handouts and some practice sheets wherein I was able to apply what she was teaching that day.

What I like about the one-on-one workshop is that I got to ask her questions and she also presented some samples, so I could easily learn some of her styles. She was really nice and patient in teaching me. She shared so many tips and tricks on how I can achieve and create eye-catching lettering, too! Pearl also shared her pen collection with me and was nice enough to explain each one was properly used.
