Losing a laptop is already stressful. Losing it on a day when you’re supposed to work—and while dealing with a family emergency—hits a little harder.

That’s exactly what happened to Vanya Tantoco, whose MacBook went missing on a day she had an event at The Fifth Rockwell for Lunched, one of their brands. Her baby had to be hospitalized, so she left early, unintentionally leaving her laptop behind at their booth. During egress, it was accidentally loaded and left in the parking area.
They only realized what had happened once they were already in Fairview, far from where the laptop had last been seen.
“At first, I honestly thought it was a joke,” Vanya shared, especially when she checked her Find My app and saw her MacBook already moving… and eventually showing up in Baclaran.

That was when reality set in. She started thinking about work, deadlines, and whether she should already post a call for help online. It felt like a long shot—but still, maybe worth trying. Eventually, though, she didn’t get to post anything, choosing instead to focus on being with her baby.
Then something unexpected happened.
When she opened Facebook, she noticed a random friend request. It felt strange enough to raise a hunch. Checking her messages, she found one from a certain Kuya Dan—who had clearly done his best to reach her. He sent a message, shared his contact number, and even commented on some of her posts to make sure she’d see it.
As it turns out, when they opened the laptop, her name and face were right there, making it easier to find her online.
They eventually coordinated the return, and the extra care didn’t stop there. Before handing it back, they even asked another person, Kuya Jojo, to have Vanya type in her password herself to confirm ownership.
For Vanya, it was a moment of relief—and a reminder.
It’s easy to expect the worst in situations like this. But sometimes, things turn out differently. Sometimes, people choose to do the right thing, even when they don’t have to.
Maraming salamat to Kuya Dan and Kuya Eleazar for going out of their way to return what wasn’t theirs—and for reminding us that quiet acts of honesty still exist. Moments like these don’t just return lost items; they restore a little faith, too.
