Roblox Won’t Be Banned in the Philippines—Here’s What DICT Says Parents Should Do to Protect Kids

The Philippine government will no longer push through with plans to restrict access to Roblox. This move follows the platform’s commitment to strengthening child safety measures.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) confirmed that the popular online gaming platform is no longer facing a ban after meeting with government agencies and stakeholders ahead of the previously set deadline.

Earlier, Roblox had been placed on formal notice, with authorities warning that it could be restricted in the country if it failed to improve protections for minors. The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) even said it was prepared to coordinate with telcos, Google Play, and Apple App Store to enforce a potential block.

However, this stance changed after a dialogue on April 7, 2026, between Roblox representatives, the DICT, the CICC, law enforcement, and private sector partners.

According to the DICT, Roblox presented enhanced safety measures, including stricter monitoring systems, improved reporting mechanisms, and stronger age-appropriate content controls.

Nilatag at ipinaliwanag ng Roblox ang mas mahigpit na safeguards sa kanilang platform,” the agency said in a statement.

Roblox is also set to launch an information campaign on April 12, 2026, to better inform users—especially parents—about available safety features.

ICT Secretary Henry Aguda emphasized that while platforms like Roblox can serve as “digital playgrounds” where users can learn and connect, they also come with risks.

Habang nag-eenjoy sila, responsibilidad nating siguraduhin na ligtas ang spaces na ito. Kasi at the end of the day, ang safety ng kabataan ang priority natin,” he said.

Why Roblox was under scrutiny

Authorities had raised concerns over reports of online predators, scams, cyberbullying, and exposure to inappropriate content, particularly affecting minors.

There were also discussions about requiring Roblox to:

  • Register in the Philippines
  • Strengthen age verification systems, potentially linked to government databases like PhilSys

Globally, the platform has faced similar scrutiny, including lawsuits and regulatory actions related to child safety.

Roblox has already begun implementing changes, including a mandatory age-verification system that uses facial recognition for certain features, such as chat.

What parents should do

With the platform remaining accessible in the Philippines, the DICT is urging parents to stay actively involved in their children’s online activities. Recommended steps include:

  • Using built-in parental controls
  • Monitoring screen time
  • Limiting in-app purchases
  • Blocking inappropriate experiences
  • Ensuring content is age-appropriate
