A video of a ride-hailing app driver texting while driving recently circulated on social media.
The passenger, Tomas Adam Laslo, shared a video in the Facebook group Complaint Singapore, showing the Grab driver using his phone while driving. In the video, the driver is seen holding the steering wheel with his right hand and his phone with his left. At times, he uses both hands to type on the phone, glancing back and forth between the screen and the road.
“Irresponsible Grab driver, continuously texting with both hands! And this is just a short part when I was able to record,” he captioned his post.
Laslo also mentioned that Grab only sent him a “copy-paste letter” in response to his complaint.
According to reports, he booked a GrabCar Premium ride from Tanjong Rhu to Novena in Singapore on November 21. Laslo alleged that he told the driver to refrain from using his phone while driving, but his request was ignored.
The Grab driver has been suspended, while a spokesman for Grab Singapore reportedly reached out to Laslo to apologize and offer a refund for his booking.
Grab Singapore reiterated that using a phone while driving is strictly prohibited under the Road Traffic Act in Singapore.
โDriver-partners found to have violated our code of conduct or traffic laws may be permanently banned on our platform,” the company noted.
