We all know Sam Smith as a terrific songwriter who can write painfully beautiful songs like “Stay With Me.” After a two year absence, the singer is back with “Too Good at Goodbyes” and it reminds us of what we love about Smith. Now, one of our local talents has covered the song and it’s so good!

The song is about a man who is getting used to his failing relationship. Part of the lyrics go, “And every time you hurt me, the less that I cry / And every time you leave me, the quicker these tears dry / And every time you walk out, the less I love you / Baby, we don’t stand a chance, it’s sad but it’s true.”
Smith truly shines in the refrain, which goes “I’m never gonna let you close to me / Even though you mean the most to me / ‘Cause every time I open up, it hurts / So I’m never gonna get too close to you / Even when I mean the most to you / In case you go and leave me in the dirt.”
Smith released his debut album In the Lonely Hour in 2014, which had the singles “Money on My Mind,” “Stay With Me,” “I’m Not the Only One,” “Like I Can,” and ”Lay Me Down.” The following year, he won four out of his six Grammy nominations.
In 2015, he sang “Writing’s on the Wall,” which was the theme song of the James Bond film Spectre. The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
