The self-titled “Appointed Son of God”, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, previously announced to his followers that he had been the one to stop the Mindanao quake which took place last October 29.
He said before a crowd: “Sinigawan ko ‘yung lindol, noong gumanon na ‘yung mga chandelier ko, ‘stop!’ sabi ko, stop kaagad [I yelled at the earthquake when I saw my chandelier shaking, ‘stop!’ I said and it stopped right away].”

One notable reaction to this claim was TV show host Vice Ganda’s challenge during an episode of It’s Showtime. “Hinahamon kita, Quiboloy. Ipahinto mo na ‘Ang Probinsyano.
’ Napahinto mo pala ang lindol eh. Napakayabang niyo pala eh. Sabi niya raw, stop. Sige nga, punta ka ng gitna ng EDSA, stop mo ‘yung traffic doon,” demanded Vice. [I’m challenging you, Quiboloy. Why don’t you stop ‘Ang Probinsyano.’ So you stopped the earthquake, huh. You’re so boastful. He said, stop. All right, why don’t you go to the middle of EDSA, try stopping the traffic there.]
The Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name founder replied to the taunt during his show Spotlight. “Lindol lang ung pina stop ko eh dumating pa yung challenge na ipa stop ko daw yung probinsyano o kaya yung sa EDSA. Kailan mo ba gustong mapa stop ang Probinsyano? Ikaw, mamili ka, kelan mo ba gustong ma stop?Isang buwan? dalawang buwan? tatlong buwan? apat na buwan? Ikaw, pili ka. Baka sa apat na buwan di lang yung Probinsyano ang ma stop, baka pati yung network mo stop na yan,” Quiboloy stated.

You, you choose, when do you want it stopped? One month? Two months? Three months? Four months? You choose. Maybe in four months, it won’t just be ‘Ang Probinsyano’ that is stopped, maybe your own network will be stopped.]
He continued to address the challenge of stopping EDSA: “Sinabi mo pahintuin ko ang traffic sa EDSA, paano ko pahihintuin, nakahinto na. Ang dapat mong sinabi pabilisan, pabilisan ang traffic, pabilisan ang traffic flow, eh paano ko pahintuin eh nakahinto na nga eh. Naging parking lot na nga ang EDSA eh, nakahinto na. Paano ko pa pahihintuin ang nakahinto na.”
[You told me to stop the traffic on EDSA, how will I stop it if it is already stopped? What you should’ve asked was for me to make the traffic move, make the traffic flow faster. How am I supposed to stop it when it’s already stopped. EDSA is already a parking lot, it’s already stopped. How will I stop what is already stopped?]
