PUP Communication Society Kicks Off the Year with “GOLDEN: Let’s Seal the COMMoon”

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Communication Society successfully opened the academic year through its event titled “GOLDEN: Let’s Seal the COMMoon.” The assembly was held on October 20, 2025, from 12:00 NN to 4:00 PM at the PUP College of Communication Audio-Visual Room in Sta. Mesa, Manila. The event was made possible through the generous support of its sponsors: KitKat, Motivo, and Flex Office Philippines, who helped make the event a golden day for the students of the College of Communication.

The program officially began with opening remarks from the organization’s president, Carlo Millapre, who encouraged participants to build new friendships, find inspiration, and foster a renewed sense of belonging. He emphasized collaboration and excitement for the surprises the event had in store.

The engagement started with an icebreaker activity titled “Your Idol,” inspired by a song from K-Pop Demon Hunters. This was followed by a roundtable discussion designed to help attendees get to know the organization better. The speakers were Mx. Denise Gayeta from the Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations program, Mx. Lorenzo Zuñiga from the Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting, and Mx. Joecelyn Buen from the Bachelor of Arts in Communication Research. Each shared their personal experiences and reflected on how the organization contributed to their personal and academic growth, particularly through the skills and talents they discovered in various projects and events.

Adding a touch of fun, Flex Office Philippines brought extra excitement by giving away free ballpens and surprising participants with a visit from their mascot.

The highlight of the program was the guest speaker, Mx. Cathyrene Peñaflorida, an alumna of PUP College of Communication, former CSI Chief, and Executive Board member of the PUP Communication Society, who now works with TV5 Network. Peñaflorida took everyone on a nostalgic trip through her time as a member of the organization, sharing insights on student leadership and her journey as a media practitioner. She inspired students to pursue their career aspirations and closed her talk with a memorable reflection: “Ang tunay na golden ay hindi ang ningning, kundi ang lalim.”

The event also featured captivating performances from Movers and Motions, a dance organization of the PUP College of Communication, and Shack Daidana, a PUPian drag artist known for her blend of fierceness and elegance. Their performances filled the room with energy and excitement.

Toward the end of the event, the newly appointed Executive Board was formally introduced, expressing their dedication to continuing PUP CommSoc’s service to students by upholding the organization’s values of excellence and service.

The program concluded with heartfelt remarks from Project Heads Julliana Elpedes and Jelo Zapanta, who expressed gratitude to the attendees, organizers, and partners for making the event a success. Through “GOLDEN: Let’s Seal the COMMoon,” the PUP Communication Society once again proved its commitment to fostering community and passion within the college.
