UPLB Society of Pre-Med Students Presents Medi2CENE: Dissecting the System

The matter of health has never been just a medical concern—it’s a human one. In a time when conversations about healthcare are more vital than ever, the UPLB Society of Pre-Med Students (UPLB SPS) invites everyone to enter the medical scene—on call and on purpose. Continuing its mission of service through knowledge, the organization holds MediSCENE, a flagship event that sheds light on the evolving state of Philippine healthcare through education, advocacy, and engagement.

First launched in April 2025, MediSCENE aims to make health literacy accessible to the public. This October and November, the event takes a deeper look at the healthcare system as a living, breathing body—when one part suffers, the entire system feels it. It presents the current challenges of Philippine healthcare through anatomical and physiological symbols, inspiring this year’s theme, Medi2CENE: Dissecting the System.

Medi2CENE Main Pub Rescheduled

Despite the suspension of face-to-face classes in Laguna due to earthquake preparedness efforts, Medi2CENE pressed on. Events were held online via Zoom and Facebook Live, proving that the pursuit of knowledge never stops. One of its highlights, MediSCENE: uncoverED, brought together a health activist, a doctor-to-the-barrio, and a registered nutrition-dietitian to discuss the realities of Philippine healthcare and respond to the administration’s healthcare claims in the President’s SONA. Another talk, in partnership with Lundbeck Philippines, Inc., featured a psychiatrist who tackled mental health awareness in commemoration of World Mental Health Day. The week concluded with Be MED Ready, a free NMAT review session in collaboration with UPLink Review Center, helping aspiring doctors take their next big step.

Each event reached over a thousand live viewers, showing how curiosity and compassion thrive even in a virtual space.

However, this is just the beginning. This November, Medi2CENE continues with a mix of online and on-campus activities that bring the learning experience closer to the community. These include Med for More, a virtual medical school fair connecting aspiring doctors to the country’s top medical schools; Rxhibit, an interactive showcase of medical art and science highlighting creativity and critical thought in healthcare; Mga Kwentong Tsubibo, a film screening exploring recurring healthcare challenges; and the BRAINIAC QU15CON, a culture-meets-science contest celebrating intellect, teamwork, and Filipino ingenuity.

Medi2CENE stands as a movement to rethink, reevaluate, and rebuild the system sustaining the nation’s health—one that is, and always will be, a matter for everyone, whether an aspiring doctor or someone simply hoping for a better healthcare system.

Stay on scene, on call, and on purpose with upcoming Medi2CENE activities through the official UPLB Society of Pre-Med Students Facebook page.
