On November 9, the pope wrote a brief message on X, expressing his prayers for those who were affected by the typhoon, as well as for the deceased and their families.
“I express my closeness to the people of the Philippines who have been hit by a violent typhoon: I pray for the deceased and their families, as well as for the injured and displaced,” he said.
On November 4, typhoon Tino made its first landfall in the country, gravely affecting those who live in Cebu, Negros Occidental, and Leyte, among other provinces. Data from the Office of Civil Defense show that at least 204 people have died, 109 remain missing, and 156 have been injured across the Visayas and parts of Mindanao.
However, the country continues to suffer from Super Typhoon Uwan, which made landfall on Sunday evening, November 10, in Aurora. Several parts of Luzon were gravely affected after the typhoon brought strong winds and torrential rains.
