Pinoy K-Pop Fans Make Hashtag Trend to Clean Up Manila Bay

Filipinos love K-pop! In fact, they love K-pop so much that in a span of a couple of days, they manage to take over Twitter with their hashtags. Last week, it was about the Blackpink meet-and-greet; this time it’s for a totally different cause. Non-fans might have woken up to see the #CleanManilaBayForSeulgi climbing the trending topics on Twitter until it finally reached number one.

Red Velvet’s Seulgi

You might be wondering who Seulgi is and why we’re cleaning up Manila Bay for her.

Well, Seulgi is a member of South Korean girl group Red Velvet who performed the night before in Manila as part of the K-pop World Music Festival 2019. The singer shared that the place she really wants to visit in the Philippines is Manila Bay. And because Filipino fans are crafty and funny AF, they decided to create the hashtag #CleanManilaBayForSeulgi.

Of course, the hashtag brought about a lot of funny tweets, but it also brought attention to an issue that’s been plaguing the landmark for a long time. The hashtag has blown up so much that it’s evolved into more than just an inside joke in the fandom. Reveluvs (Red Velvet fans) are actually willing to clean up Manila Bay!

Hopefully, the fandom puts this energy into putting action into words. Not only will it benefit Manila Bay, but it’s a nice gesture for their favorite idol, as well. After all, K-pop fanbases have always done a lot of charitable things for their idols.
