Pikachu Speaks English In The New Pokémon Movie And Fans Are Annoyed

Pikachu Pokemon

If you’re over the age of 18, you know certain things to be true, like the fact that in Pokémon, Pikachu doesn’t speak English at all and has a single catchphrase, “Pika pika”, used and tailored for all kinds of instances and emotions. Pikachu interacts mainly with fellow Pokémon and Pokémon trainers through lightning bolts and variations of “Pika”.

Well, apparently Pokémon decided to mess with our childhood and fans, mainly grown-up ones who used to watch the animé as kids are completely horrified. The new Pokémon movie, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! featured a talking Pikachu — and in English, no less.

Viewers squirmed in their seats, cursed and collectively groaned in the theaters during that one scene, and frankly, it’s just weird. Why fix something if it ain’t broke?

The English-speaking Pikachu has caused quite the commotion among fans, so much that the voice actor addressed the issue on Tumblr, saying that she interpreted the scene as something that happened in Ash’s mind.

So there you go. If you’re catching the movie, just be prepared for this surprise coming in.
