The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) just shared a PSA on its Facebook page reminding everyone to be more vigilant during the rainy season in checking under their cars for stray cats seeking shelter. This is to prevent accidental deaths of these strays when turning the car on and driving away.
“PLEASE CHECK YOUR CARS BEFORE DRIVING OFF!” PAWS began on its post where it shared pictures of a kitten sitting on top of a tire during a downpour.
“Like this tiny kitten, many strays seek refuge under our cars, on top of tires, or even on top of engines under the hood during the rainy season. Such is the plight of strays— if they’re not looking for shade from the heat of the sun, they need to seek shelter from the cold rain. All they want is to just survive.”
“As the rainy season ushers in, let’s spare a thought for animals,” the post added. “It only takes a quick 5-minute check before riding your parked car. Don’t forget to remind your friends and family to do the same! Your considerate inspection could save a life!”
