  • Pokémon Video Game Championships: A fast-paced, turn-based strategy game played on the Nintendo Switch.
  • TCG: A tabletop and digital card game where players use 60-card decks to place Pokémon in the active spot and on the bench, attach energy, and use attacks to knock out opponents. Victory is achieved by collecting all six prize cards, clearing the opponent’s active Pokémon, or exhausting the opponent’s deck.
  • Pokémon GO: A mobile game where players enter an augmented-reality world to catch Pokémon, hatch eggs by walking specific distances, and team up with local players for in-person raid battles against powerful bosses.
  • Pokémon UNITE: A multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game where teams cooperate to defeat wild Pokémon, level up their chosen characters, and score points in the opposing team’s goal zones before time runs out.

Following the announcement, The Pokémon Company surprised attendees and online viewers with a brief 39-second teaser video during the closing ceremony. The snippet offered a glimpse of the movie’s core premise: a teenage competitor sitting at a high-stakes match table, shuffling his deck alongside his partner ghost-type Pokémon, Mimikyu.

Historically, Pokémon animated movies—such as Pokémon: The First Movie or I Choose You!—have focused on mythical encounters, wilderness journeys, and legendary Pokémon threatening the balance of the natural world.

However, the upcoming release takes a different narrative direction, centering on the high-stakes drama of competitive card play. Pokémon: Wild Card marks the franchise’s return to movie theaters after a seven-year hiatus, celebrating the brand’s ongoing legacy.
