When you think of emergency kits, you probably imagine having to shell out a couple of thousand pesos to complete one. But Pasig City just showed everyone that preparedness doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag.

In a Facebook post, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto shared that the contents of the Pasig Go Bag—which includes essentials like a flashlight, scissors, and other emergency tools—would normally cost around ₱1,200 to ₱1,800 if bought individually. Some even estimate that it could go over ₱2,000 when sourced from regular retail stores.
But here’s the impressive part: the Pasig local government unit (LGU) managed to get it at less than ₱1,000 per bag (₱992, to be exact) through proper bidding and procurement.
At first, some people were understandably cautious—after all, a lower price can sometimes raise questions about quality. But once the bags were delivered, it became clear that the winning bidder didn’t cut corners. According to Mayor Vico, every item—from the scissors to the flashlight—met the standards.
Because of this, Pasig City was able to provide one Go Bag per household, with extra units for schools, public utility vehicles, and Tricycle Operators and Drivers’ Association (TODA) members. It’s a smart, efficient example of how transparent governance and careful planning can make a real difference in community preparedness.
“Madugo man ang laban para sa mga reporma, tiwala lang at patatagin pa natin ang mga nasimulan na,” said Mayor Vico.
As Pasig continues to roll out reforms that prioritize both quality and practicality, residents have more reasons to be proud of where they live.
