If you’ve seen absolutely any of the Godzilla movies and thought “I wish I could be running for my life in fear from that monster, too” then your dreams may soon be answered. The Nijigen no Mori theme park in Japan will be opening next year and you can definitely look forward to their Godzilla-themed area.
What exactly will make it a must-see for fans? Well, the life-sized replica of the famed monster is one thing. Standing at 20 meters (65 feet) high, 25 meters (82 feet) wide and 55 meters (180 feet) long, the Godzilla statue will be the exact same size as it appears in the movies.
And it won’t just be for show either! The replica plays a role in the area’s main attraction, “Godzilla Interception Operation”. Said operation includes a number of ‘missions’ that have to do with taking down Godzilla. Ziplining straight into Godzilla’s mouth or taking aim at him with firearms are a couple of the activities which will be featured.
Located on Awaji Island in Hyogo prefecture, the theme park’s site was chosen specifically for its significance to the famed monster. According to their website, “the legendary figure of Godzilla was first confirmed at the beginning of the Meiji era when a typhoon hit Awaji Island. Godzilla, who appeared with the high waves, roamed the island, causing tremendous damage.”
