The National Alliance of Youth Leaders (NAYL) will once again gather young leaders in the Philippines in this year’s UGNAYAN 2016: ”ONE ASEAN: Physically Divided, Politically United”, a national youth-focused three-day in-house event, at the University of the Philippines – Diliman, this coming May 27-29, 2016.
The event is one that offers new and relevant knowledge and promotes social awareness of present-day issues of the country. Not only does the event promote youth awareness, it also develops a venue for cultural exchange of ideas and opinions and instills values of teamwork, unity, and proactiveness among the young leaders of today. This year, UGNAYAN 2016 will revolve around the topic of the Political-Security Pillar of the ASEAN Integration.
Four plenaries will mainly compose the event, with a number of workshops and competitions in between for young leader participants to engage in. The first plenary, entitled ”The Political-Security Pillar of the ASEAN Integration”, is aimed to address the said pillar to provide a conducive venue for young leader participants to know more about the Political-Security Pillar, its goals, implications, and implementation in the region.
Followed by the second plenary, “Role of the ASEAN in the Politics, Governance, and Security of its Member States”, young leader participants will be enlightened on the important role of the ASEAN in the political-secuirty affairs, whether international, inter-state, or internal, of its member states.
“A Background on the Electoral and Political System in the Philippines”, the third plenary, will deal itself by painting an overall and clearer picture of the electoral and poltical system that takes place in the country for young leader participants to better situate themselves in the present-day Philippines.
Capping them all, the fourth plenary, entitled “The Filipino Youth in the ASEAN and in the Philippine Governance”, is set to put forward and inspire the young leader participants in knowing their role and embodying it fully in the political-security affairs of not just the country but of the integrating ASEAN region as well.
Competitions in the event include a debate tournament, an essay writing competition in English and in Filipino, and a poster-making competition. The competitions is open to all young leader participants.
