NASA celebrates 5th anniversary of ‘long distance relationship’ with Pluto

NASA recently posted a photo on Instagram celebrating its 5th-anniversary since the New Horizons spacecraft made history during its flyby to Pluto.

In 2015, we were able to see Pluto’s diverse and stunning landscapes.

On Instagram, NASA wrote, “Dear Pluto, ⁣We love you. ? Happy 5 year anniversary since our New Horizons spacecraft revealed your complex and beautiful world. To celebrate, we’re showing off one of our favorite pictures from our time together. You are literally GLOWING. Don’t stop that shine! Keep being perfect.” The caption also read, “Distance has nothing on this relationship.”

To celebrate this historic moment, NASA also wrote about “10 Cool Things We Learned About Pluto” on their website. This list includes interesting discoveries about the planet like how Pluto was (and still might be) volcanically active.

Since then, New Horizons has flown past Pluto to continue to explore the outer reaches of our solar system.
