When in Manila, it always pays to take skin care seriously. The soot and grime that accumulate on your skin daily, when paired with the damaging effects of the sun, can seriously affect the appearance and overall health of your skin. Depending on your skin tone and type, using synthetic chemicals may also further cause damage instead of help rejuvenate, revive and repair the largest organ of our body.
Mukti (pronounced mooktee), one of Australia’s leading certified organic skin care brands, uses Australian native ingredients like Macadamia Nut Oil, Aloe Vera, Kakadu Plum and handcrafts fresh products infused with antioxidants, carotenoids, flavonoids and herbal extracts to nourish the skin. Because of these pure, high grade certified organic and 100% natural ingredients, people with dry or sensitive skin can greatly benefit from regular use of Mukti’s range of skin care products. Not only are the naturally extracted, raw ingredients non-toxic and safe enough to ingest, but they are greatly beneficial to our overall health.
Mukti, the eponymous owner of the skin care brand, has independently created her own beauty products, carefully selecting certified organic ingredients to produce skin care lines that work effectively with dry, oily, combination and sensitive skin types.

Mukti Botanicals Product Review
Always on the lookout for skin care products that are free of parabens, I went ahead and took the chance to try some of Mukti’s organic products. I was curious as to what the company offers, and just the thought of applying select, natural ingredients made by an environmentally responsible eco-activist and advocate of “truth in labelling” made me very eager to try the brand.

gentle foaming cleanser (Php 2,000 / 150 ml)
If you have normal, combination, oily or acne prone skin, use Mukti Botanicals‘ gentle foaming cleanser to gently remove impurities excess oil from your skin. This gluten-free product contains aloe vera and bladderwrack, calendula, chamomile, ginkgo biloba, horsetail, nettle, red clover, rosemary, sage and yarrow extracts. Upon first use, I immediately noticed that my skin’s tone improved and appeared a tad bit more rosy and sebum-free. I found the strong smell of herbs clean and refreshing.
Together with the other skin care products, Mukti Botanicals‘ gentle foaming cleanser comes packaged in an airless pump dispenser to prolong the product’s shelf life.
refreshing hydrating mist toner (Php 1,650 / 50 ml)
Ideal for normal, combination or oily skin, Mukti Botanicals’ refreshing hydrating mist toner is indeed refreshing and hydrating. The citrus scent is fresh and crisp, invigorating the senses as the mist tones and tightens the pores. You can either spray a light mist over your face or wipe a soaked cotton pad right after using the gentle foaming cleanser. This vegan product contains neroli hydrosol and citrus oils as well as aloe vera juice and witch hazel extract.
aloe vera moisturiser (Php 2,000 / 150 ml)
The aloe vera moisturiser is a gel-based conconction specially formulated for oily, combination and acne prone skin. It’s light, soothing and non comedogenic (will not clog pores). It took me a bit to get a pea sized amount from the airless pump dispenser, but I feel that that was common for brand new containers. What’s cool about this product is that it can also be used as a moisturising shaving cream!
Personally, I think this is the best moisturizing product I’ve used so far. It doesn’t sting at all unlike another organic moisturizer I know, and it doesn’t cause me to turn slightly red after application.
sebogel (Php 1,200 full size)
A sample pot worth AUD0.55 from the Mukti website
I got a sample pot for Mukti Botanicals’ sebogel (you can order up to 2 samples per order), and I must say it’s a better, more natural alternative to most of the acne treatment products available at drug stores. The product is gentle on skin as it eliminates impurities and controls breakouts.
Since I only had a single hormonal pimple to try it on, I immediately dabbed it with a bit of the transparent gel when I first got the Mukti products. It smells strongly of lemongrass and another plant I didn’t recognize. The product didn’t sting at all; it was only when I looked in the mirror the following day and saw a lightly smaller bump did I realize the potency of sebogel.
tinted moisturiser with SPF 15 (Php 2,800 full size)
A sample pot worth AUD0.55 from the Mukti website
Mukti Botanicals’ tinted moisturiser with sunscreen is a nano particle and chemical free product containing zinc oxide to filter UVA and UVB rays. The moisturizer also contains green tea extract, shea butter and macadamia, jojoba, rosehip and calendula oils for our skin’s nutrition.
Because of the moisturiser’s somewhat neutral reddish-brown color, I was skeptical to use the product on my face. I figured there was no way the moisturizer would look good on my Asian skin tone, but I was dead wrong!
I tried the product on my hand, and the result was a pinkish skin tone. There were teeny tiny flecks of gold, too.
