The reopening of movie houses in Metro Manila has been in discussion and was first set to happen last February 15th, but it was moved back to March due to the concern of some mayors that this move might cause a surge of COVID infections in their cities. Malacañang assured that before the opening, consultation with the city mayors will be conducted and that guidelines will be put in place.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press briefing, “We are in agreement about the need to gradually reopen the economy because more people now are going hungry than getting infected with or dying of COVID. But the [task force] and the mayors are also in agreement that minimum health standards should not be relaxed,” he said.
According to Mr. Roque, the tentative opening of Metro Manila movie theaters is on March 1, if all goes according to plan.
