Then it was time to hit the road again. Soon enough, we were greeted by this sign, letting us know we had finally arrived at our destination! It was about time, too; we were getting pretty stiff from sitting on the bike.

We parked at a cluster of restaurants off of Aguinaldo Highway, so we could get our first view of the famous Taal Lake and Volcano. As we walked to the viewpoint, there were several mimes about. We dropped a 20 peso bill into one of their boxes and he danced for us!

At last, the beautiful view that we drove all this way to see! We stood around looking down at the lake and volcano for quite some time, just enjoying the view. It was a spectacular sight! Then we got pretty hungry, so it was off to find some Bulalo!

It definitely wasn’t hard to find bulalo in this city that is famous for it – driving down the highway, practically every restaurant had a sign advertising their bulalo! It was my first time trying any bulalo at all, and I was looking forward to tasting Tagaytay’s famous dish. We found a place called Diner’s Bulalo that claimed to be “the famous and original”, and they had very fair prices, so we decided this would be the place to try it.

Altogether, the spread looked good but not extraordinary. We weren’t expecting too much, to be honest. But we were deceived by the simplicity of it – Diner’s food was incredible. While we were waiting, they served us each with a cup of hot beef broth. It was one of the best broths that I have ever tasted. It was so meaty and savory. Next, the garlic rice arrived; it was so delicious that I could eat it plain. It was really salty and flavorful and had big chunks of garlic throughout!

Finally, the main courses arrived – the lechon kawali and the bulalo. Oh my goodness, it was indescribable. I’ve never tasted such yummy broth. The bulalo’s meat was so tender and juicy. It looks so simple, just cabbage and beef in the broth, but it absolutely a delight to our tastebuds. The lechon kawali was as well; perfectly crispy skin on the outside and tender, juicy pork underneath, dipped in just a bit of soy sauce and calamansi, we were so pleased with our dinner. In fact, we were so impressed that we left twice our normal tip, and came back to Diner’s again the next day for our last meal before leaving Tagaytay. I have a feeling we will be making this drive again soon just for Diner’s.

After we left Diner’s, it was getting late, so we decided to find somewhere to sleep. We drove around looking for the cheapest rates as we were on a pretty tight budget. I’m afraid I don’t recall the name of the place we ended up staying at, but we were able to find a room for just 900 pesos, right off of Aguinaldo Highway. There was no aircon, but in this cold city, we didn’t need it! In fact, I had to ask for extra blankets! We got a full night’s sleep, and then were off to Sky Ranch in the morning!
