In a Facebook post by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the 50th MMFF has reached its P800 million target gross sales.
“The MMFF would like to thank all the stakeholders and the public for making its 50th edition one for the books,” MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando Don Artes said, noting how the annual festival has leveled up in terms of inclusivity, promotions, the overall quality of entries, and more.
The MMDA also revealed the top three entries based on the gross sale receipts. The films that made it to the top three spot are Jun Lana’s And The Breadwinner Is…, Zig Dulay’s Green Bones, and Mike Tuviera’s The Kingdom.
And The Breadwinner Is…, which is top-billed by Vice Ganda, has already earned over P400 million as of January 15, 2025, according to a post by Star Cinema. The acclaimed comedian won the “Special Jury Citation” award at the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal last December 27, 2024.

Following the success of the movie, the drama-comedy would be available for screening in the following countries: Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, and Spain, among others.
On the other hand, The Kingdom, which took a deep dive into an alternate timeline where the Philippines was never colonized, was led by Vic Sotto, Piolo Pascual, Sid Lucero, Christine Reyes, and Sue Ramirez. The modern historical movie clinched the “2nd Best Picture,” “Best Production Design,” “Best Visual Effects,” “Best Director,” and the “Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award” prizes.
Finally, Green Bones secured multiple awards at the annual awards show. The tear-jerker film, headlined by Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid, bagged the following awards: “Best Picture,” “Best Actor,” “Best Supporting Actor,” “Best Screenplay,” and “Best Cinematography.”
With this feat, the MMFF has extended its overwhelming gratitude to all the stakeholders, especially the public, for making the golden edition of the MMFF “one for the books.”
“Rest assured that the MMFF will continue all efforts by encouraging our stakeholders, especially the local entertainment industry, to create quality films. The key to our success is in collaborating, helping and supporting each other instead of fuelling divisiveness, coming out with unsubstantiated claims, and sweeping judgments,” Artes shared.
He added: “We did our best to give the public the best edition of the MMFF for its Golden Year. There are lessons to be learned, but we acknowledge the great effort and sacrifice given by the ones who were part of this milestone festival. It was a success as it upped the standards from the previous MMFFs, and by saying so, we redefined our indicators beyond box office returns, which is worthy of another study, moving forward.
With the success of the annual awards show, the MMFF has extended its theatrical run until January 14 in select cinemas only.
Proceeds from the annual movie festival will go to beneficiaries in the film industry, including the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund), the Film Academy of the Philippines, the Motion Picture Anti-Film Piracy Council, the Optical Media Board, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
