Be prepared for a stunning nighttime spectacle this month of April!
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced in its Astronomical Diary that Filipinos will be able to catch two meteor showers: the Lyrid Meteor Shower, which will be visible from April 14 to 30 with an expected peak of activity on April 22, and π-Puppids (Pi-Puppids), which will be visible from April 15 to 28 with peak activity on April 23.
PAGASA noted that the best time to observe the Lyrid Meteor Shower is “shortly before dawn, when up to 18 Meteors per hour can be observed.” For the Pi-Puppids Shower, it can be observed after sunset until around 10:11 PM and the best time to see it is around 8 PM on April 23.
Though you won’t need a telescope to watch the meteor showers, PAGASA recommends that you choose a spot that is far from city lights and under clear, moonless skies.
