Disney has been developing a live-action Little Mermaid movie for quite a while now. And while everyone was distracted with debates about who’s going to play Prince Eric, Disney sneaked Melissa McCarthy into their offices. According to Variety, the actress is being considered and is in early talks to joining the film as Ursula the sea witch.
Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) and Jacob Tremblay (The Room) are also in talks to play Scuttle and Flounder respectively.
Meanwhile, American singer Halle Bailey has been cast as the Little Mermaid herself!
The new film will be directed by Marry Poppins Returns’ Rob Marshall and will include songs from the 1989 animated film, as well as new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda.
