Marie France Gives Back: Lending a Hand to Others for the 3rd Year in a Row
For many of us, Saturdays are usually spent at home, taking some much-needed rest and enjoying some me-time after the stressful week that had just passed. Saturday is generally a good day to spend time with your loved ones or friends for a quick Tagaytay getaway or dinner at a fancy restaurant and have some clean, good fun, as well.
For the Marie France Group of Companies, however, one recent Saturday was dedicated to a medical mission to help other people in need. It was actually a great way to spend the weekend, seeing community members smile back at you while you serve them with the necessities they are incapable of providing themselves – a day of giving back to the less fortunate.
Together with Team Marie France; Jo, Cathy and I volunteered to join the cause of serving the residents of Brgy. Sagad, Pasig City last July 12. The Sagad covered court was packed with kids, elderly people and other people in need of medical help. The sun was steadily up at 8 A.M., prickling our skin with the heat, but it didn’t matter. I felt like I was at the right place that time. I felt like I really should be there.

This event is actually now on its 3rd year. There were free consultations from the in-house doctors who were so helpful and jolly while treating and checking each patient. Free optical check-ups were also provided courtesy of partner Ideal Vision. In addition to all of these services, they also included bone densitometry for the elderly with bone diseases and free minor surgery. An added bonus: there was free ice cream for everyone! 🙂
My part here was actually small, but the much-needed manpower made a big difference. I was assigned at the pharmacy, collecting the doctor’s prescriptions and choosing medicine for the patients. It was kind of confusing at first, what with all of the medicine that I honestly was not familiar with. After a while, I finally got the hang of it, though.
It was an inspiring day of giving back. Even brand ambassadors Shalani Soledad-Romulo, Shamcey Supsup-Lee, Chris Scheinder, Marianna Cresci, Lissa Kahayon, David Guison, Joyce Pring and Camille Co lent a hand for the residents of Brgy. Sagad. It’s good to know that even personalities like them make way for outreach programs like this.

At the end of the medical mission, it was hard to believe that we actually served over 1,000 residents in need! It was exciting, fulfilling and joyful all at the same time – definitely one Saturday of giving back that I’ll never forget.
