Mad World 2014 “Selfie”: How To Create Meaningful Personal Brands

Dra. Vicki Belo was then up next to talk about her Brand as a CEO. Cristalle, her daughter, first held a game with the audience members and gave away shirts and freebies.

Now, I didn’t see this coming. I thought Dra. Vicki Belo was a prim and proper woman since she looks that way in photos. I hadn’t really seen her on videos apart from her interviews at the news, either. However, she proved to be a spunky and energetic woman in heels on stage. She was clearly having fun and she was so engaged in talking about her passion for her business, too.

Here are the key points from Dra. Vicki Belo’s talk:

Aim to be the first, not to be the best.

Best is relative to all of us, but first is objective. No one can really attest to you when you’ve proven you’re the first to launch a product or to innovate a system. It always pays to be ahead and to follow through with what you started.

Don’t suppress your true personality. Let it shine through.

She said that, in her starter years as a dermatologist, she saw how dermatologists were expected to be prim and proper in their clinics. It was way opposite to her personality, though, so she let her fun personality shine through to her clients instead. You can’t really fake what your true personality is, so just let it show.

Good is the enemy of excellent.

Let us not settle for “good enough”. Everything we do is judged by the people around us, so always put your best foot forward. According to Outliers, it takes 10,000 hours to be a world expert on anything. So, if you’re working on being an industry leader, why not be the best at it while in the process of getting there?

The last speaker was Tony Sarmiento, Managing Partner & Chief Collaborator – Havas Media Ortega. I actually expected him to be in a power suit but he came in donning a casual shirt, jeans, and sneakers. I can say it was his presentation that was my favorite. It really looked like a product of an advertising man.

Here are some key points from Tony Sarmiento’s talk:

Identify yourself.

Only you can really define your personal brand. Although at times, there are aspects of your personality which other people can see and you can’t, it’s still you who really knows your strengths, weaknesses, and preferences.

Tell us your purpose.

It’s always a delight to hear people talk about their purpose in what they do. Why do you do what you do? Why are you here where you are?

Tell the world your story.

Show the world your story in photos, videos, actions, and words. When people get to see the story behind your work, it gets them more engaged and usually gives you more credibility.

Now, that was one fun-filled Sunday afternoon. I felt like being a student again with all of the knowledge that I got!

So When In Manila, never pass up on opportunities on learning about marketing like this or at least stay up-to-date with them!
