Ma’ Rosa has reportedly secured a distribution deal in the United States.

As reported on InterAksyon, the movie, which was selected as the Philippines’ entry to the Oscars, will be distributed and released some time around Spring next year in the United States by First Run Pictures, a New York-based independent distributor and one of the largest of its kind in America.

However, the movie still needs a lot of campaigning in order to be shortlisted this December, before the final five is announced in January.

According to sources, “Ma’ Rosa” is currently ranked at seventh among the Top 10 possible nominees. Other films in the list include Chile’s “Neruda”, Denmark’s “Land of Mine”, and Iran’s “The Salesman”.

“Ma’ Rosa” previously defeated critics’ favourite and Venice International Film Festival’s Golden Lion winner, Lav Diaz’s “Ang Babaeng Humayo”, to be the country’s representative work to the Oscars.
