PSA commuters: the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 is all set to open!
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that it will begin to operate this November, adding five new stations: Aseana Station, MIA Road Station, PITX Station, Ninoy Aquino Avenue Station, and Dr. Santos Station (formerly Sucat).
Each station will be equipped with elevators, escalators, and tactile guides to accommodate persons with disabilities (PWDs). According to DOTr, the first phase will connect Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City.
They also noted that it’s expected to reduce travel time by 30 minutes and serve an additional 80,000 passengers daily. LRT-1 has an average of 323,000 passengers daily.
“We hope that this opening of the extension of Line 1 will help alleviate traffic as it will be able to support thousands of passengers, additional passengers taking LRT Line 1. And this will be our early Christmas gift to the residents of the area,” DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said in a press briefing.
The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) also emphasized that automated entrance gates, ticket vending machines, and ticket booths at the five new LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 stations have already been installed.
The LRT-1 Cavite Extension is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project, which is expected to improve connectivity to Metro Manila’s south area, easing traffic congestion and providing commuters with faster and more convenient travel options. It began its construction in September 2019.
