LOOK: ‘Indie’ #MMFF2016? Here’s What Direk Erik Matti Has to Say About It

The recent revelation of the Metro Manila Film Festival’s “Magic 8” shocked many, as it did not include many of the mainstream franchises the festival had been accustomed to for years. Instead, the MMFF Committee removed commercial viability as one of the factors for choosing the films that would be aired during the holiday film fest, leaving out staples including “Mano Po 7”, “The Super Parental Guardians” (Vice Ganda and Coco Martin), and “Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers” (Vic Sotto).

This year’s entries are very much indie and include titles from the industry’s most talented directors including “Die Beautiful”, “Vince & Kath & James”, “Seklusyon”, “Saving Sally”, “Oro”, “Kabisera”, “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 2” and “Sunday Beauty Queen”. However, not many are happy with the MMFF Committee’s decision this year, with many airing their disappointment with the “indie” selection.

Erik Matti, director of this year’s MMFF entry, “Seklusyon” aired his own sentiments regarding the issue.
