Dolphy passed away last July 2012 due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He led a successful career in show business for over 6 decades, starring in over 200 movies and television series.

The famed comedian first fell in love with acting as a young boy selling peanuts and watermelon seeds at movie theatres. He later got his start in film with a small movie role at the age of 19 and the rest, as they say, is history.

He also received the Diwa ng Lahi award in 2012 and was posthumously recognized with the Gawad CCP Para sa Sining, the highest honor given by the Culture Center of the Philippines (CCP).
