LOOK: Coronavirus patient and doctor watching the sunset will melt your heart

A photo of a doctor clad in a full protective suit standing beside the bed of a coronavirus patient in Wuhan has been making rounds on social media. The patient is an 87-year-old and is reportedly seriously ill. The patient has been wheeled out to enjoy the setting of the glorious sun.

According to PRehab System on Facebook, “I haven’t seen the sun for a month,” the 87-year-old patient said so they stopped to enjoy the sunset while on the way for a CT scan.

“The elderly man had been stuck in the isolation ward for nearly a month, which made him a bit depressed. I thought the rays of the sun might cheer him up,” said his doctor, Liu Kai.

The patient was admitted on February 9. Initially, the patient needed oxygen and has not felt like talking to anyone, Liu explained.

However, under the care of the 27-year-old doctor and his colleagues from Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University in Shanghai, who went to Wuhan to help, the patient’s condition has greatly improved.

“The idea lit up my imagination when I saw the sunlight. Since coming to Wuhan, we have been working shifts around the clock. I also wanted to enjoy it awhile,” Liu said. “Even though we only spent five minutes outside, the patient’s mood improved and he soon fell asleep after returning.”

“The patient, who also is a violinist, is now recovering and has begun singing every day. He promises us to perform the song When Will You Return? on the day he is discharged. I also made a deal with him to see the cherry blossoms together after the epidemic,” the doctor elaborated.

The photo is taken at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University and was originally shared on Chinese social media platform Weibo.
