Liza Soberano’s Legal Counsel Issues Statement on Her Stand

ICYMI, Liza Soberano was recently urged by a top military official to withdraw her support for women’s rights group Gabriela.

According to a post on the Facebook page of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, Lieutenant General Antonio Parlade Jr. said: “Liza Soberano, there’s still a chance to abdicate that group. If you don’t, you will suffer the same fate as Josephine Anne Lapira.”

The statement came about after Soberano spoke at a Gabriela Youth webinar called “Mga Tinig ni Nene: Reclaiming Our Voices on the International Day of the Girl Child.”

Due to these circumstances, Soberano’s legal counsel Jun Lim released a statement on Thursday through her manager Ogie Diaz.

“We denounce in the strongest terms the ‘red-tagging’ of our client, Ms. Liza Soberano in some social media platforms,” Lim said in the statement. “Expressing her love and respect for women and children is her personal advocacy.”

He then adds that Soberano “remains to be apolitical,” and “does not support nor antagonize any person’s political views.”

To conclude, Lim calls on all concerned parties to “be circumspect” in associating Soberano with their respective political beliefs. The entire statement can be read here:
