Lea Salonga Marks Her 50th Birthday

Broadway star and film actress, Lea Salonga, just celebrated her 50th birthday!

On February 22, Monday, Lea took to her social media to express her joy for achieving this amazing milestone in her life.

“50 today!!! Woo-hoo!!! To everyone that sent a greeting, THANK YOU!!! I’m a tad overwhelmed, but in an oh so good way! Truly, this girl is hella grateful!” she wrote in her Instagram post that contained two funny text posts that read, “Keep Calm I’m 50 Today!” and “I’m not 50, I’m 18 with 32 years experience.”

Many of her fans, friends, and followers expressed their warm birthday greetings online.

Lea grew to fame for her roles in musical theater and for supplying the singing voices of the iconic Disney Princesses, Mulan and Jasmine. She was the original actress for Kim in the musical Miss Saigon in both West End and Broadway, for which she won the Olivier and Theatre World Awards. She also became the first-ever Asian woman to win a Tony Award.

She was also the first actress of Asian descent to play the roles of Éponine and Fantine in the musical Les Misérables on Broadway.

Locally, she’s well-known for her role in Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal and the critically-acclaimed film Sana Maulit Muli opposite Aga Muhlach.

She recently went back to doing films with a lead role in Yellow Rose alongside Eva Noblezada.
