In a sit-down interview with Boy Abunda on October 28, Kathryn shared insights from her 11-year-long relationship with ex-boyfriend Daniel Padilla.
“During that 11 years, I’m learning, and after the break-up happened, ang dami ko rin natutunan after sa sarili ko and sa lahat ng nangyari (I learned so much about myself and everything that has happened),” she shared, adding that she is surrounded by so much love by her family and friends.
Boy then asked the Hello, Love, Again actress for advice she would give her younger self regarding her past relationship.
Kathryn said she has no regrets: “Ayoko siyang pangunahan (I don’t want to interfere). I want you to experience all the happiness, all the pain.”
“It’s just 11 beautiful years. Kung ano ‘yung nakikita niyo ngayon, ang laking part nung 11 years na yon (Whatever you see now, a huge part of that comes from those 11 years),” she continued. “Kung nandyan si little Kath, and sasabihin ko ‘You know, ayaw kitang pangunahan (If little Kath were here, I would say ‘You know, I don’t want to interfere). I want you to experience all of these emotions, all of these things kasi it’s gonna be a big part of your growth.”
Afterward, the Fast Talk with Boy Abunda host asked what lesson she would share with her future son or daughter about love.
“To my future daughter or son, I would say, ‘Don’t use your pain as a reason to hurt others,’” the 28-year-old actress replied.
“I think that’s what I learned personally: just because you’re in pain or hurting doesn’t mean you have to do the same to others,” she continued.
“If something bad happens, I’ll let you experience it because I can’t protect you from it, but siguro ‘yung makokontrol ko lang (what I can control) is how you will handle yourself when you’re in pain and I want you to know na basta alam mo ‘yung values mo, alam mong wala kang naapakan na ibang tao (as long as you know your values and you haven’t hurt anyone else), then you shouldn’t be afraid of anything kasi lahat kakayanin mo (because you can handle it). Yun ang ginawa ko sa sarili ko (That’s what I applied to myself),” she added, reflecting on her growth after the 11-year relationship she had.
In November 2023, Kathryn and Daniel, both popular as a love team and real-life couple, confirmed their break-up.
This year, the actress is set to reprise her role in Hello, Love, Again, the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster romance film Hello, Love, Goodbye, with co-star Alden Richards.
Directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana, Hello, Love, Again continues Joy and Ethan’s story five years after Joy left Hong Kong for Canada.
Hello, Love, Again will be in cinemas on November 13, marking Kathryn’s big-screen comeback after A Very Good Girl.
