Juliana Gomez Wins a Gold Medal for Fencing at the 85th UAAP

Juliana Gomez recently won the fencing gold medal for the University of the Philippines.

She won against Cyrra Vergara from De La Salle University, 15-10, in the women’s fencing final for the UAAP’s 85th season.

On Instagram, she shared a photo on social media and captioned it with, “2 years in the making… I’m just getting started. It’s a privilege to fight for UP.”

Her father, Richard Gomez posted a video and wrote, “I am so proud of you @gomezjuliana! You are now UAAP champion!!! Hard work and understanding of the game has set in. I love you ‘day!”

The younger Gomez joined the UP volleyball team in 2019 but went back to fencing during the pandemic.

Just last November, she won the Air Force Open Fencing Championship in Bangkok, Thailand.

Richard is also a fencer and won gold in the 2005 Southeast Asian Games. He is the president of the Philippine Fencing Association.
