John Cena announced his retirement from in-ring competition of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 2025. The wrestling superstar and actor made the announcement during his surprise appearance at the Money in the Bank event in Toronto, Canada.
โTonight, I officially announce my retirement from the WWE,โ he said. “I hear mixed opinions out there. A lot of questions maybe, right?”
Cena reiterated that the 2025 Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania will be his final appearances in the ring. He then expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout the years.
“Thank you for letting me play in the house you built for so many years. Thank you so much always for your voice that is really loud and your honesty because it’s beautifully brutal,” he noted.

At the press conference after the event, he revealed an upcoming farewell tour between January and December next year. Cena also emphasized that after his in-ring competition, he will remain part of the WWE for an extended time.
“I’ve always said to the audience that the WWE is my home, and I love it. Just because I physically feel I’m at my end doesn’t mean I need to distance myself from something I love,” he stressed.
The 16-time world champion also mentioned that he’ll hold a bunch of events across the world for him and his fans to get together for the last time. However, he hasn’t elaborated on his plans yet for after his retirement.
Cena debuted in the WWE in the early 2000s and instantly became a fan favorite, earning the nickname “Doctor of Thuganomics.” He also starred in “The Suicide Squad,” “Fast & Furious 9 and 10,” “Argylle,” “Barbie,” and “Blockers.”
