It’s Official: Upcoming ‘Hamilton’ Movie to Feature Original Broadway Cast

Hamilton the Musical has become a pop culture phenomenon within the five years since it premiered on the Broadway stage. It went on to be the 7th highest-grossing Broadway musical since 1982, selling out most of its shows for its entire run and making a name for its creator and lead star Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Now, everyone around the globe can finally watch the musical at the comfort of their own homes! Lin-Manuel, in an interview with Variety, officially confirmed that a Hamilton Movie is in the works and it’s going to star the original Broadway cast.

“What I’m most excited about [is] you all have that friend that is like, ‘I saw it with the original cast.’ We’re stealing that brag from everyone because you’re all going to see it with the original cast,” he said. “We’re just trying to find the right time to do it.”

If you don’t know how significant it is to have the original cast on board, trust us when we say that it truly changes everything!

No release date has been confirmed during the interview but Lin-Manuel did say that he hopes it would come “sooner than later.” According to reports, the movie will be an “exact replica of the Broadway production, including an intermission.”

Hamilton follows the story of Alexander Hamilton, an American-immigrant Founding Father, told through hip-hop, R&B, and traditional show tunes music. The original cast includes Lin-Manuel as Alexander Hamilton, Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Jonathan Groff as King George III, and Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson.
