Honor of Kings Wins Google Play’s Best Game of 2024 in SEA

Following its successful launch earlier this year, Honor of Kings, the worldโ€™s most played MOBA, has been awarded Google Playโ€™s Best Game of 2024 in Southeast Asia (ID, SG, PH, MY). With fierce, fast-paced 5v5 battles, a striking roster of legendary heroes inspired by different SEA cultures, and a variety of exciting game modes to suit both casual and competitive players, Honor of Kings delivers an experience that captivated the international MOBA audience in just a few short months after its global launch. For this feat, the worldโ€™s leading mobile app platform, Google Play, has honored HOK with the award designed to highlight games and developers “that strive for quality and drive innovation.”

Honor of Kings is made accessible to MOBA beginners, but that doesnโ€™t mean itโ€™s a walk in the park either. Optimizing your heroโ€™s role within the team and its assigned lane provides a compelling challenge every time you play. The diverse strategies and synergies involved made Honor of Kings stand out from a SEA of other MOBA entries, and certainly ignited the competitive spirit of gamers worldwide when it launched globally in June 2024.

Dean Huang, Director of Honor of Kings, stated regarding the prestigious award:
โ€œWe are incredibly grateful to Google Play for the award and to the passionate community across Southeast Asia that has embraced Honor of Kings since its launch and made it one of the most popular games in the region.โ€

Going Global
Since its global launch, Honor of Kings has been downloaded by over 50 million players worldwide and has provided extensive localization for its international players, including guides, resources, and tips across its official platforms to educate players on the game. In addition to international IP content, the game has also developed new heroes and in-game activities that were regionally or locally curated for its community, such as the Lee Chong Wei campaign in Malaysia, which featured the first-ever Malaysian professional sports athlete in a mobile game. The Silat-themed skin, which marked the first time that the traditional Southeast Asian martial art was featured in a mobile game, was particularly well-received in the region. Last month, prolific and widely popular Filipino content creator Chooxtv was immortalized in the game as a selectable announcer pack, which delighted local fans in droves.

The ground-breaking localization initiative also embraces regional legends. In light of the Indonesian players’ sentiment to bring Garuda, a cultural and national symbol, to Honor of Kings, a co-creation event was launched to invite players to share their vision for the design of the new hero. As a result, Garuda Khageswara will be launched exclusively for the Indonesian market in early 2025 as part of Honor of Kings’ commitment to the community.

Alongside in-game activities, Honor of Kings also mounted exciting and thrilling esports events worldwide to further foster community and provide an avenue of fan support. The Honor of Kings Invitational Series kicked off the year with Season 1, held in Istanbul, Tรผrkiye, where Vivo Keyd Stars claimed victory. Invitational Season 2 drew crowds from fans in Malaysia, where LGD Malaysia (now known as Black Shrew Esports) triumphed. Thereafter, the Esports World Cup gathered players worldwide to compete for a prize pool of USD 3,000,000 in the Honor of Kings Invitational Midseason 2024 in Riyadh, which saw the KPL Dream Team taking everyone by storm. Last but not least was the 2024 Honor of Kings Championship held offline in Jakarta, which concluded in October with Black Shrew Esports taking the coveted title of the best HOK team.

Crowning Glory
All in all, itโ€™s been an incredible launch year so far for Honor of Kings. The Google Play Award for Best Game in SEA is just the latest in its collection of esteemed crowns. With its continued dedication to innovation and polish, unmatched localization efforts, and exciting community-driven events, Honor of Kings has set solid building blocks on its way to becoming a MOBA dynasty.
