Hidilyn Diaz Posts for the First Time Since Winning in the Olympics

Hidilyn Diaz has posted on social media for the first time since winning the 55kg weight division in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

On her Instagram post, Diaz expressed her disbelief over what she had accomplished in the competition which garnered the Philippines’ first-ever gold medal in nearly a century since its Olympic debut in Paris 1924.

[Translation: “I can’t believe that I’m here in the Olympics. I can’t believe that the Olympics pushed through. I can’t believe that TeamHD is here. I can’t believe that I’m an Olympic Gold Medalist. If I was just on my own, I wouldn’t have been able to do this. It would have been impossible. I thank God for all the people, government support, private support, family, friends, and prayer warriors for helping me achieve this and for making things possible for me.”]

Diaz made history on Monday, July 26, after besting China’s Liao Qiuyun by lifting a total of 224kg in the clean and jerk event. She is also the second Filipino athlete to ever win multiple Olympic medals, previously winning silver in the women’s 53kg division in Rio 2016. In the days that followed, Diaz has been receiving a multitude of blessings from the government and private companies as a reward for her achievement — including lifetime free flights, lifetime free fuel, free dining at specific restaurants, a house-and-lot, and a condominium unit.

At the end of Diaz’ post, she quoted a verse from the bible: “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'”
