Here's the New Christmas Jingle for the Texting Capital of the World (That's Us!)

The most overplayed Christmas song is probably Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas is You.” The song is played nonstop during the Christmas season (meaning we’ve heard the song since September) that Mariah can retire and still earn millions from the song’s royalties.

But here’s a new Christmas jingle that is set to replace Mariah’s rendition. It’s actress Kirsten Bell’s “Text Me Merry Christmas,” a collaboration with a cappella group Straight No Chaser. Not only is the song catchy, it also captures everyone’s habit of being hyper-connected in social media.

Filipinos are sure to love it because after all, we were once crowned as the texting capital of the world. When Facebook and Twitter rolled in, we became the social media capital of the world. When the term selfie was invented, we also became the world’s capital for that.

In the song, Kirsten asks her special friend, who is far away, to text her Merry Christmas. According to Kirsten, “A Facebook message isn’t quite as sweet, I need more from @you than just a tweet.” Straight No Chaser, or SNC responds by saying, “Choose just the right emoji, one that makes me LOL.

It’s a funny video that pokes fun at how teenagers today communicate.
