The move supports the government’s ongoing push to shift public services to digital platforms. According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, the new feature aims to make license renewal more convenient by allowing clients to complete the process wherever they are.
He noted that using the online service may help reduce the need to travel to LTO branches or wait in line at renewal offices.
How to renew your driver’s license through the eGovPH app
To access the service, users need to download and install the eGovPH app from the App Store or Google Play. The app requires security verification to protect user accounts.
Once installed, here’s how to apply for renewal:
-
Open the eGovPH app and find the NGA icon.
-
Locate and select LTO.
-
Tap Online Driver’s Application.
-
Click Renew Your Driver’s License.
-
Upload or capture images of the front and back of your physical driver’s license.
-
Wait for the system to analyze the uploaded card (around one to three minutes).
-
Review and verify your details, then submit.
-
Take a photo following the required standard format indicated in the app.
Requirements to prepare beforehand
To help ensure a smoother application process, the LTO advises applicants to complete these requirements before proceeding:
Telemedicine medical examination
-
Access the LTO ODLRS Portal and click Telemedicine.
-
Book an appointment.
-
Attend and complete the online medical examination.
Online Driver’s Enhancement Program (DEP)
-
Access the LTO ODLRS Portal and click ODEP.
-
Complete the five-hour education program.
Payment and license issuance
After completing the requirements, applicants can proceed with online payment by selecting a payment gateway and paying the corresponding renewal fee.
Once the transaction is successful, the driver’s license is considered renewed. An electronic driver’s license (e-license) will also be automatically generated and can be viewed in the eGovPH app. The LTO said the e-license has the same validity as the physical card.
Applicants may also choose to have their physical license delivered via courier or pick it up at a selected district office.
The LTO shared that the digitalization of its services is part of broader efforts to make transactions more accessible and efficient for Filipinos, including those overseas.
