Filipino Cuisine at Its Home-Cooked Finest: Gerarda’s in Tagbilaran City

We were not able to contain our trigger-happy attitude and ordered a LOT. Hungry tummies rule!

Dish #1: Seafood Kare-kare

Initially, this dish made me go “UMM..What??” It’s weird to even think about it – seafood and peanut butter married into a concoction. I thought it was only for the brave, but boy, was I wrong. Take this as a testimonial. THIS DISH IS YUMMEH.

Dish #2: Beef Kare-kare

The beef kare kare was ordered as a fallback if ever the seafood version turned out to be a dissater (we were mistaken, sorry). The seafood and the beef are equally good and are both winners. I guess it simply depends on whether you like the refreshing taste of the sea or, you know, the cows. Sauce on this dish is thicker and saucier.

Dish #3: Caldereta

Good ol’ Caldereta. It never fails. Nom factor: 1000++

Dish #4: Dinakdakan

A recommended dish by the servers. I did not bother knowing the exact ingredients in it (onion, mayonnaise, tomatoes, some herbs maybe?), but it’s definitely A MUST-TRY because of its twist on the traditional dinakdakan. It uses crispy pork instead!

Dish #5: Buttered Chicken

The buttered chicken could not be any simpler.. but it is tasty GOOD.

Dish #6: Calamari

Not too oily. I enjoyed stuffing my mouth with these babies.

BURP! On to dessert…

Dessert #1: Buko Pandan

Dessert #2: Fried Ice Cream

I found the desserts okay. Probably because I’m already full? But nahhh..

We definitely found what we were looking for: a place that offers local food that’s masarap! We are definitely going back here on the next vacation! Bohol is so worth it with its tarsiers, its chocolate hills, their beautiful churches, and Gerarda’s.  Two thumbs up to Gerarda’s for giving us a full and satisfied stomach. Happiness.
