There are no limits to what Philippine cinema can achieve, and the Cinemalaya Film Festival is ready to prove that point this year.
After breaking boundaries across diverse genres and platforms in 2025, the renowned competition for independent Filipino filmmakers has returned with a new lineup of inspiring stories that viewers can look forward to.

Last year, audiences resonated deeply with standout Cinemalaya entries such as Open Endings, Child No. 82, and Bloom Where You Are Planted, which offered unique perspectives on Filipinos’ identities and everyday lives. This year’s film festival aims to spark the same conversations as it spotlights the country’s promising talents and storytellers.
Cinemalaya wasted no time preparing for the 2026 film festival. Fresh off last year’s awarding ceremony on October 12, 2025, Filipinos got a glimpse of the ten full-length feature films that earned a spot in this year’s roster.
In light of these upcoming titles, Cinemalaya also held open auditions and casting calls at the University of the Philippines-Diliman (UPD) Fine Arts Gallery on December 6 and 7, 2025. Among the talented aspirants were:
- Nic Chien, Lea Salonga’s son, who played Jack in Theatre Group Asia’s all-Filipino production of Into the Woods,
- Annika Co, who delivered a stellar performance in Sunshine,
- Hershey Neri, content creator and host of the Chicks 2 Go podcast, and
- Vince Maristela, an actor and former housemate on the first season of Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition.
From notable auditionees to intriguing new entries, the 2026 Cinemalaya Film Festival is gearing up for another year of must-watch performances, social commentaries, and reflections on society.
Here are more details on the ten upcoming Cinemalaya feature films that strive to represent a new era of independent local movies:
