Known for bringing Broadway-caliber shows to Filipino audiences, Theatre Group Asia once again dazzled with a performance that was equal parts magical, hilarious, and deeply moving.
This staging of Into the Woods was extra special as it marked a milestone for the mother-son duo, Lea Salonga and Nic Chien—their first musical together. Lea, as always, was truly breathtaking, commanding the stage with effortless grace, while Nic impressed with his natural charisma and presence. It’s clear the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and we can expect great things from Nic in the years to come.
The cast was nothing short of stellar. Arielle Jacobs charmed as Cinderella, Nyoy Volante and Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante brought warmth and power to their roles as The Baker and The Baker’s Wife, and their onstage chemistry made the story even more heartfelt. Eugene delivered fantastic comedic relief, while Teetin Villanueva stole plenty of laughs as the delightful Little Red Riding Hood.

Every performance hit the mark—whether it was Nyoy’s powerful vocals, Mikkie’s moving presence, or the way the ensemble brought Sondheim’s tricky score to life. The orchestra’s lush performance, the director’s sharp vision, and the intricate set design tied everything together into a seamless, enchanting experience.
In the end, Into the Woods was more than just a show; it was a celebration of Filipino talent. With a cast and crew this exceptional, Theatre Group Asia once again proves that the Philippines has what it takes to shine on the global stage. It was a production that left us smiling long after the curtain fell—and we can’t wait to see what they have in store next.
