According to reports, the New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC) is planning to launch facial recognition e-gates across all terminals within six months. This initiative aims to reduce queues at the airport and provide more efficient identification processing for both international and domestic passengers.
NNIC Chairman Ramon Ang noted that Terminals 1 and 3 will be prioritized for the initial installation of this facial recognition technology. The NNIC also highlighted recent improvements at NAIA, including a new OFW Immigration Annex and Lounge, a dedicated rest area for OFWs, a centralized ride-hailing hub, a wider arrival curbside, and ongoing system upgrades such as the upcoming biometric e-gates.
“Across NAIA, more upgrades are in progress—from terminal interiors to airside operations—to improve the experience for all travelers,” the NNIC said in a social media post.
Ang further confirmed that NAIA Terminal 5 is expected to be completed in 30 months, and is intended to host domestic flights to ease congestion in Terminal 2.
