Empowering Youth: Ped Xing XVI Shaping the Future of Politics

The University of the Philippines Political Society (UP POLSCi) remains steadfast in its commitment to its pillars of leadership, service, excellence, and politics in empowering the youth through the 16th iteration of Ped Xing on February 22-23, 2025, at Palma Hall and the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS).

Anchored in the UP Political Society’s core principles of academic excellence, political awareness, and political involvement, Ped Xing serves as a valuable instrument to bridge theories learned in the classroom with practical applications carried out through the project. Holding the status of the premier political competition, conference, and camp comes with the obligation to engage the youth in political participation—not only within the initiative itself but, more importantly, beyond it, encompassing the realms of community, society, and the nation.

Ped Xing XVI’s theme is “Takda, Akda, Gawa: Kilos Na, Kabataan!”, emphasizing the catalytic role of youth in shaping the Philippine sociopolitical landscape, especially with the upcoming 2025 Midterm Elections. While the youth may not necessarily meet the requirements to elect politicians into power, their presence remains pivotal.

To amplify the youth’s sentiments and underscore their capabilities to shape and transform society, the competition will integrate the discipline of Political Science into its events, namely: the 2nd Nene Pimentel Debate Championships, Philippine Model Congress, Collaborative Publishing, Quiz Bee (brought to you by the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation), and the Poster Making Contest (brought to you by the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc.).

Beyond providing participants with an avenue to develop their skills, Ped Xing also aims to impart essential knowledge, reinforcing the idea that everything is political. Throughout the two-day event, there will be a series of conferences discussing the relationship between politics and advocacy, leadership, and the media. Additionally, a panel featuring youth leaders and the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation will commemorate the 38th anniversary of the People Power Revolution.

This event is in partnership with the Office of Senator Koko Pimentel, the Office of Secretary Sonny Angara, the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation, and the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc.

The opening and awarding ceremonies of Ped Xing XVI will be livestreamed on Facebook on February 22 and 23, respectively. More details about the event can be found on its Facebook page: Ped Xing: Politics 101 Camp (https://www.facebook.com/uppolscipedxing).
