Eighteen Bistro: The New home of Good Food, Company, and 18-Peso Cocktails

Tucked quaintly in Scout Rallos in Quezon City is a new restaurant that’s serving up delectable flavors aimed to please friends and families–all in an environment that encourages pure enjoyment of good food and company.

Eighteen Bistro, the brainchild of a family passionate about food, recently opened in one of the quieter districts of Tomas Morato and is now gaining patrons who rely on its guaranteed-to-please menu composed of home specialties perfected through time and served in the best way possible.

My family and I dined in Eighteen Bistro for Mother’s Day and it proved to be a lovely experience. We started off with two pasta dishes–the Bolognese and the Spicy Portobello and Cream Cheese.

Both dishes delivered–pastas were cooked right and well–but the Spicy Portobello and Cream Cheese was an instant favorite. It is creamy and tasty, and the spice from the cayenne pepper added an exciting kick to an otherwise typical pasta dish. This newest item in Eighteen Bistro’s menu is a definite must-try.

Next, we had the Beef Bourguignon, which is slow braised beef in red wine served with potato terrine. It’s a delight to eat with its delicious, tender meat which comes in a generous serving enough for two to three.

We also tried another new item, the Pan-fried Smoked Spada which is two spada fillets laden with creamy lemon butter emulsion and served with potato terrine. Fish dish fans will love this delicious take while the rest can opt to try this as a welcome change from the usual meat orders.

Of course, we didn’t miss out on trying Eighteen Bistro’s pride–the Chicken Parmigiana. A bite into this goodness is enough to know why it’s a crowd favorite.  Its friendly, well-balanced flavors are comforting, and the slightly-crisped chicken showered with cheesy tomato-based sauce is a sure-fire pleaser. Chef Boj Mendoza, who commands the kitchens of Eighteen Bistro, shares that customers love this dish so much, they usually order another to bring home.

We feasted on this scrumptious spread for lunch, but Eighteen Bistro also transforms into an ideal place for drinks in the evening hours with its famous 18-peso cocktails. Every day, the restaurant lets diners enjoy cocktails for only 18 pesos each from 6-9PM. It’s definitely a treat for co-workers looking to enjoy after-work drinks or friends searching for a late night hangout.

Eighteen Bistro may be a smaller player compared to the other ones lining up the famous Timog-Tomas Morato strip, but its strength lies in exactly this quality. With its well-selected and prepared menu of family recipes, Chef Boj Mendoza and his team crafts an intimate dining experience filled only with the most appetizing tastes.
